YUFE Hosts Inaugural Cultural and Arts Festival

To deeply explore cultural connotations of the university, foster a rich cultural character, and truly engage the youth, revitalize campus life, and invigorate Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE), the first Cultural and Art Festival themed Chinese Charm, Ethnic Beauty, World Style was held on May 10. The festival is part of the Pomegranate Flowers Blooming Toward the Party, United Toward the Future series of activities. Events took place at the universitys One-Stop Student Center and Xinyang Square.

Participants included Wang Wenting, Director of the Publicity Department of the Yunnan Provincial Education Committee; Long Yiwen, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the Shiping County Committee; Li Rui, Member of the Standing Committee and Deputy District Chief of Longyang District; Wang Jianying, Party Secretary of YUFE; Chen Guangyu and Shi Zhongjun, Deputy Party Secretaries; Li Zhengbiao, Vice President and Party Committee Member; Cun Lifeng, Publicity Minister and Party Committee Member; Zhu Wen, United Front Work Minister and Party Committee Member; heads of various functional departments and related colleges, as well as representatives of Chinese and international students and faculty.

At the One-Stop Student Service Center, the seventh lecture of the Zhang Guimei Ideological and Political Lecture Series series was held, featuring inspiring stories from different speakers. Among them were Yang Hongqiong, a Chinese female Paralympic cross-country skier and triple gold medalist at the Beijing Winter Paralympics and a current student at YUFE; Li Huaixiu and Li Huaifu, national-level actors and inheritors of the Haicai Tune(海菜腔) intangible cultural heritage from Shiping County; and Li Chaoyan, a young lecturer at YUFE and the full marathon champion at the Rio and Tokyo Paralympic Games in the T46 category. They shared their personal journeys and struggles with the audience.

Wang Jianying, Party Secretary of YUFE, delivered a talk titled Striving to Write a Youthful Chapter of Courageous Responsibility for Chinese-Style Modernization, discussing growth and development with the youth in attendance. Along with Wang Wenting, Chen Guangyu, Shi Zhongjun, and Li Zhengbiao, he awarded certificates to Yang Hongqiong, Li Chaoyan, Li Huaixiu, Li Huaifu, and Xia Yundi, a student from the School of Economics and a National Outstanding Communist Youth League Member, appointing them to the universitys theoretical education and youth lecturer groups.

At Xinyang Square, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Food Enters Campus: YUFEs Selection to Support Agriculture campus market was a highlight. Outstanding teams from the universitys Challenge Cup student innovation and entrepreneurship competition showcased intangible cultural heritage products and specialty foods from Wenshan, Honghe, Nujiang, and Diqing, actively promoting these products in a flea market setting.

In the afternoon, at 4:00 PM, the cultural and artistic performance Between Ethnicity and the World began at Xinyang Square. Guests and student representatives jointly inaugurated the first Cultural and Art Festival of YUFE. Performances included the Haicai Tune intangible cultural heritage, ethnic dances such as the cigarette box dance, and African dances, presented by the Shiping County Cultural Center, the YUFE Art Troupe, and international students. The entire audience joined in singing and dancing, celebrating the fusion and collision of ethnic and world cultures, turning Xinyang Square into a sea of joy under the summer sun.

More than 12,000 faculty and students participated in the event both online and offline.
