From April 19 to 21, the 8th Annual Conference of the China Strategic Management Society (2024) was held at Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE). The conference was organized by the China Strategic Management Society, hosted by YUFE’s Office of Science and Technology Administration and the Business School, and co-organized by the Strategic and Organizational Committee of the China Enterprise Management Research Association. The conference theme, “New Quality Productivity and Strategic Choices for Chinese Enterprises”, was inspired by President Xi Jinping’s important speech during his 2023 inspection in Heilongjiang Province. The event focused on discussing the issues, challenges, and coping strategies in strategic management for Chinese enterprises under the new development pattern. Over 40 experts and scholars from prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, Renmin University of China, Nankai University, and South China University of Technology, along with more than 80 faculty and students from YUFE, participated in the conference.

During the opening ceremony, Vice President Li Zhengbiao delivered a welcome address on behalf of the university. He warmly welcomed and extended sincere greetings to all guests, expressed gratitude for their continuous support, and provided a detailed overview of the university’s recent developments. Professor Xu Erming from Renmin University of China, the first and second convenor of the society, and Professor Zhou Jian from Nankai University, the fifth and sixth convenor, also delivered speeches on behalf of the society. The opening ceremony was hosted by Duan Yunlong from the Office of Science and Technology Administration.

In the keynote speech session, Huang Qifan, Executive Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of the China Society for Innovation and Development Strategy and former Mayor of Chongqing, delivered a keynote report titled “The Development Path and Strategic Significance of New Quality Productivity”. He introduced the background, strategic significance, and intrinsic choices related to new quality productivity, and proposed five service-oriented indicators. Professor Jiao Fangyi from Heilongjiang University presented a keynote report on “Developing New Quality Productivity and Achieving the Goal of Chinese-Style Modernization”. Chen Zuotao, Chairman of Tianhao Energy Co., Ltd., and GigaDevice Semiconductor Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote report titled “Developing New Quality Productivity to Empower High-Quality Development”. The attending experts engaged in in-depth discussions around the three reports.

During the closing ceremony, Professor Lan Hailin from South China University of Technology, the third and fourth convenor of the society, and Professor Ouyang Taohua from Beihang University, the seventh and eighth convenor, respectively, summarized the conference.
